Guideline on Malaysia Passport renewal / application in Johor Bahru

For Malaysian working in Singapore and wish to renew current passport within a day, there are 2 options : go to the UTC Johor at Galeria Kotaraya or the main immigration office in Kempas, Johor.

As Sunday is now a working day for the public sector in Johor, it smoothens the whole process and saves your annual leave.

Galeria Kotaraya - How to get there ?
Galeria Kotaraya is situated at Jalan Trus, about 10 minutes walk from City Square. Operating hours is from 8.30am - 5.30pm, except public holiday.

Kempas - How to get there ?
After you clear the immigration and leave the CIQ complex (Custom & Immigration Quarantine Complex, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar), proceed to the adjacent JB Sentral which is situated in between the CIQ and City Square.

Go to the taxi stand at JB Sentral itself (which is more regulated) and get a cab direct to the Kempas main immigration office. The journey takes about 25 minutes and taxi fare is ranging from RM30–RM 40 single way, depending on the type of taxi, either red cab or blue cab.

Try to reach early in order to get the new passport within 1 hour. During the waiting window, you can have your breakfast at a mamak outlet near the entrance.

My experience :
I woke up at 5am, reached Woodland checkpoint at 6.10am, reached JB Sentral at 6.25am, and finally at Kempas just before 7am.

The counter which issues queue number opened at 7.30am and I got #0007. Thereafter, went to level 3 which opened at 8am, waited for my turn, paid the fees and told to come back at 9am for collection. During waiting window, I went for my breakfast and collected the brand new passport just before 9am. Took a taxi from a taxi stand beside the main entrance, and headed back to CIQ.
